Our story

Holy Trinity Church originated as partnership between the Church of England, the Methodist Church, the Baptist Church and the United Reformed Church, to serve the northern end of the new town of Bradley Stoke.

HTC held its first service on Easter Day 1989, in what is now the vicarage on Cooks Close. Later that year, a temporary modular container (affectionately known as “the blue hut”) was set up just around the corner at Broad Croft, which was eventually to become the site where our permanent building now stands.

HTC has always been an ecumenical partnership – that is, a working together between different church denominations – and, although our formal arrangement now exists solely between the Church of England and the Methodists, our congregation is made up of people who have joined us from a wide range of denominations and from across the world.

Our links to education are similarly strong. In 1989, Trinity Playgroup (later renamed “Trinity Preschool”) was established, Primary School that shares our name and our site, before Holy Trinity Primary School (with whom we share a building) opened in 1993. Our support for the school has covered a multitude of areas, from leading times of worship, through providing a stream of foundation governors, to handing out hot cross buns to pupils, parents and staff at Easter!

Since 2012, HTC has worked with our sister church, Christ the King, Bradley Stoke. This arrangement involves sharing our vicar and other resources, but also involves working together on some projects and joining as one for learning opportunities.

Our current ordained ministers, Rich (Church of England) and Simon (Methodist Church), both joined us in the second half of 2022. Since then, we have discerned a fresh vision and are endeavouring to live it out, to the glory of God.

Below are some photos from our early years.
